Hearing aids can do amazing things, but they cannot clean and care for themselves. To ensure that you get the most out of your hearing aids, you will want to ensure that you maintain them frequently.

Doing so will make your devices last longer so that they work correctly and you avoid unnecessary repairs.

This article will discuss the proper ways to maintain your hearing aid.

General tips

In terms of providing general care for your hearing aid, consider these points:

  • Clean your hearing aids frequently. Like anything, your dirt and grime can build up on your hearing aids over time. To keep them in tip-top shape, use cleaning tools to tidy them up.
  • Keep your hearing aids in a dry place away from heat. Like any technology, moisture and liquids can compromise the functionality of your devices. In addition, do not expose your hearing aid to extreme temperatures.
  • Avoid dropping your hearing aids. Doing so frequently may cause them to break over time.
  • Turn your hearing aids off when you are not using them. This will help to preserve the charged power or batteries.

Cleaning parts of your hearing aids

Now let’s get into the specifics for cleaning your hearing aids. There are three main components to your device: the microphone, shell, and receiver. Each of these parts requires specific cleaning instructions:

The microphone

The microphone is very fragile, so take extra care when cleaning it. To care for the microphone, turn the hearing aid upside down to expel any debris that has built up inside the microphone. Use the brush included with your hearing aid to dust the microphone port of any excess material.

The shell

The shell is the outer portion of your hearing aid. Buildup on or around the shell can prevent it from working properly. To clean, wipe the shell with a slightly damp cloth. You can also use the brush that came with your hearing aids.

The receiver

One of the most common dysfunctions associated with hearing aids is wax buildup in the receiver. To treat this, use the wax pick included with your hearing aid to scoop the wax out.

If you have a problem with your hearing aids despite following these maintenance tips, we’ll be happy to take a look to see what might be the problem. Take a look at our services here.
